Thursday, Sept. 26, the Globe and Miami varsity volleyball teams were in action.

The Lady Vandals, in a home section match versus the Lincoln Prep Lady Lightning, fell to the visitors 3-0. No match statistics were available at press time. At press time Miami stood at 0-13, 0-3 in Section 2A East. Next up is an October 2 non-section match at the 4-5 Superior Lady Panthers.

The Lady Tigers were also at home, playing the Coolidge Lady Bears in a section match. Globe took the first game 25-22 before falling 25-21, 25-8 and 25-13, for a 3-1 defeat. The Lady Tigers were 5-9, 0-2 in Section 3A Central at press time. Next up is an October 2 section match at the 10-9, 2-1 Seton Catholic Lady Sentinels.

Friday, Sept. 27, it was the San Carlos Lady Braves’ turn as they hosted two games in the Rehoboth Christian Tournament, against a pair of New Mexico teams: the Navajo Pine Lady Warriors and Newcomb Lady Skyhawks. Both matches were competitive but ended in 3-2 losses for San Carlos. Against Navajo Pine, the Lady Braves took the first two games 26-24 and 25-13; however, they fell 25-15, 25-21 and 15-7 in the final three. Facing Newcomb, San Carlos narrowly lost the first game, 25-23, before taking the next two 25-21 and 27-25 – but the Lady Skyhawks took the match with 27-25 and 15-8 wins in the last two games.

At press time the Lady Braves were 0-10, 0-2 in Section 2A East. Next up is an October 3 non-section match at the 5-6 St. Michael Lady Cardinals.

Friday night, Sept. 27, the Miami and San Carlos football teams took the field, both playing on the road.

Following their victory in the Copper Kettle rivalry game against Globe, the Vandals traveled to play the Pima Roughriders in a Section 2A Black matchup. The Vandals went to Pima with two straight wins, over Chandler Prep and Globe, but the Roughriders ended that streak with a 54-12 rout of Miami. No game statistics for the Vandals were available at press time. The Vandals stand at 2-3, 1-1 in Section 2A Black.

Next up is their homecoming game, an Oct. 4 section affair versus the 4-1, 2-0 Alchesay Falcons. It will also be “Kenny Vargas Night,” with fans encouraged to wear their white Vargas Vandal shirts to salute the late basketball coach. Vargas and his family will be honored in a special event before the game – nor is that all. The evening will also include a ribbon cutting as the Ragus Stadium press box is dedicated to Vandals assistant football coach Don Wilson.

The San Carlos Braves broke a four-game losing streak Friday night with a dominating road victory, defeating the Valley Lutheran Flames 30-10 in a non-section game. No game statistics were available at press time. The Braves’ record is 2-4, 1-1 in Section 2A Black. Next up is an Oct. 4 road game against the 2-3, 1-1 St. Johns Redskins, a section rival.

On Saturday, Sept. 28 the Globe Tigers visited St. Johns, where they suffered a 43-0 shutout. No statistics for the Tigers were available at press time. Globe is currently 1-5, 0-3 in Section 2A Black. Next up is a non-section home game Oct. 4, against the 1-5 St. John Paul II Catholic Lions.
