For the Town of Miami and a pair of Gila County school districts, property tax rates and levies are going down from their initially set amount.
Countywide rates and levies, including those for towns and school districts, were approved by the County Board of Supervisors on August 21, but it turned out the board wasn’t quite done. Miami, along with school districts in Tonto Basin and Young, later requested corrections to their figures – and the supervisors approved those requests, revising the rates and levies during a Sept. 5 meeting.
First to submit was Young School District #5, on Aug. 23. The district’s initially adopted tax rate for fiscal year 2024 was 6.5216, with a levy of $1.38 million; post-correction, those numbers changed to 5.6863 and $1.2 million. The district agreed to reimburse Gila County for any expenses involved in calculating, printing and sending revised tax notices.
The Miami Town Council, meeting on Aug. 28, adopted a property tax rate of 4.4899, a slight drop from the initially set 4.4991, and a $197,924 levy. Two days later, the town submitted the resolution containing this change to the County Finance Department.
Tonto Basin School District #33 Local Aid for Common Schools submitted the final request, notifying the County School Superintendent’s Office of the revisions on Sept. 1. The district’s rate and levy were corrected from 1.9784 and $340,977 to 1.6549 and $285,221.
