The City of Globe recently renewed an emergency air medical membership agreement with PHI Cares, a division of helicopter-based medical transport provider PHI Air Medical, and representatives of the latter were at last Thursday’s State of the City Address.
The agreement was renewed September 10 by the City Council and City Manager Paul Jepson, and facilitated by PHI Cares Senior Membership Sales Manager Carrie Brookshire. “Protecting the people of Globe must be a main priority, and the agreement . . . offers vital, life-saving services for residents in times of emergency,” Brookshire said.
With the renewal, PHI Cares will continue providing no-cost emergency air ambulance support for every Globe resident. Local residents in need of authorized emergency air medical transport from the city or adjacent counties will have no out-of-pocket expenses. The agreement will be in effect through Aug. 12, 2025. It includes residents not on Medicaid who are not covered by existing medical insurance or have no third party responsible for their medical transport.
“We’re excited; this is fantastic,” Brookshire told the Silver Belt. “I'm actually fairly new, and the reason I jumped at the opportunity to be part of the organization is because I love the fact that we save lives. It makes me very proud to see how many flights are serviced.” Brookshire said she has worked in sales and marketing for more than 25 years, in Arizona and other states. “I’m delighted to be able to step into this arena,” she added.
“We basically offer a flying ICU, with warm blood on board,” said Vice President of Operations and Marketing David Yohe. “When one of our helicopters lands, we’re not just bringing transportation to and from a scene or to a better treatment place. We can basically bring somebody to get them stabilized and get them to a facility where they can get their treatment.” He added that not having to deal with costs for the service allows patients to focus on recovery.
“I’ve been with PHI Cares for a little over a year. I’ve got a 30-plus-year career in healthcare marketing and technology, primarily in the state of Arizona,” said Yohe. “It's a real honor to be able to work with the team and help get the word out about this program.”
