Local nonprofits can now apply for City of Globe funding, as the City Council recently approved a competitive process to distribute a total of $15,000 among applicants. City Manager Paul Jepson said this was resuming a process that had lapsed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications must be filed with the City Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. on Oct. 20, 2023.
Council accepted a $4,000 mini-grant for the Globe Public Library, which will utilize the funds to launch an adult yoga class with a professional instructor; add a healthy cooking class for families to its programs; and buy cooking equipment that can be checked out for home use. The AHEAD AZ mini grant was from Arizona Librarians Fostering Resilient Rural Communities, which awarded the library $5,000 last year. With that grant, the Globe Public Library was able to initiate kids’ yoga, kids’ gardening and other programs.
Also approved by council were a resolution designating the City of Globe as its own Destination Marketing Organization to promote tourism for fiscal year 2023-24 and a $32,700 digital marketing contract with Madden Media, of Tucson. The Madden contract provides search engine marketing, search engine optimization, Google Video distribution and a VisitArizona.com remarketing campaign.
The city honored firefighter/EMT James (Scott) Hatch on 25 years of service. Globe Fire Chief Gary Robinson said Hatch is a model of fitness and has been extremely dedicated to the community.
In other business, council approved a Series 10 liquor license application for the Family Dollar store at 1800 E. Ash St. and a $49,991 grant application for 2024 to the National Children’s Alliance from the city’s Copper Hills Family Advocacy Center.
The grant money, if approved, would go toward the salary of the center’s victim advocate as well as training costs, office supplies and web design. Copper Hills received a $25,000 NCA grant for 2023.
