On Friday, the Globe High School Alumni Association threw a party for the school’s 110th birthday. Festivities included a performance by the Globe-Miami Centennial Band, a tour of the historic high school building (it was completed and opened in 1914), a presentation on Globe High School’s long history by archivist Dee Hunt, a tribute to distinguished alumni and the dedication of a “Tiger Spirit” mural. Hunt noted that the school boasts Arizona’s oldest continuously published yearbook, and that Globe Junior High School formerly held its classes on the building’s second floor. Her presentation also highlighted some notable alumni including Leroy Skeen, a 1941 GHS graduate who died aboard the USS Arizona on Dec. 7, 1941.
Hunt herself was honored in another of the day’s events, receiving the association’s inaugural Rose Mofford Distinguished Service Award.
