Posted

The Globe City Council approved a resolution authorizing an application for a $2 million Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona loan to fund three projects: Replacement Well Cutter-Drought Preparedeness ($1 million), Army Corps 595 Program Project Match ($700,000) and Groundwater Assessment and Mitigation ($300,000). The 595 Program Match between the city and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is for the water main extension from the ADOT facility to the county fairgrounds entrance. The application also listed the following alternative projects: Fairgrounds Water Storage Tank and Booster ($1.4 million), Central Avenue Waterline Replacement Conservation ($250,000), Apache Water Storage Tank and Booster (200,000) and Disinfection Enhancement and Automation ($150,000).

The loan request will come back before council for approval of a WIFA loan adoption resolution and approval of loan terms.

In early 2023 the city was notified that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had approved $2.1 million in funds for water main replacement from the ADOT yard to the Gila County Fairgrounds entrance. The city will be responsible for a 25% match of $700,000. The Corps of Engineers is scheduled to give the project final approval in February 2024. During their October 10 meeting, the City Council discussed a partnership agreement between the city and the corps. The item was moved forward to the Oct. 24 council meeting for final approval.

Another item Council voted to move forward to their October 24 meeting was a request to set aside $750,000 as matching funds in anticipation of a possible $3 million WIFA grant, for a project to replace City water meters. The WIFA board was scheduled to consider the City’s grant application on Oct. 18, 2023; if approved, the grant comes with a 25% match.
