Edith Louise Marschall was born in Globe, Arizona on May 14, 1923 to Angelo and Assunta Martimbianco. Her given name was Eda Louisa Martine but that was later changed to a more Americanized version of Edith Louise Martin. She is preceded by three sisters, Dorina “Dora” Woodburn, Eva Foley and Gilda “Jill” Carter, and one brother, Raymond “Mundo” Martin. At age 12 Edith left her family in Globe to work for a family in Prescott, Arizona, where she graduated from Prescott High with the class of 1942. After graduation she returned home to her family in Globe to work for the Edison power company. She went to a dance at Bullion Plaza in Miami, Arizona where she met John Robert “Bob” Marschall. The two married on June 5, 1943. The couple had three children, preceded by firstborn son John Ronald “JR” Marschall and daughter-in-law Hanna Rae Marschall, survived by daughter Katherine Louise Marschall and son David Martin (Beth) Marschall. In 1962 Edith decided to restart her work career at the Miami Clinic near George Washington Middle School and later worked at Miami Inspiration Hospital. At the clinic Edith performed reception and bookkeeping duties. Her transfer to the hospital was to work in payroll and administration. Edith retired in 1985 at age 62 but was always proud of and enjoyed her work career.
The couple enjoyed retirement, Edith playing golf, quilting, playing bridge with friends and family, as well as bingo with her sister Eva, while Bob enjoyed home and workshop projects. The couple built a family cabin with Edith’s brother Mundo in Greer, Arizona and together they all enjoyed hunting, fishing and many reunions with family. After 58 years of a wonderful marriage Edith’s husband Bob passed away.
In 2006 Edith and her sister Eva were able to reunite with relatives in Italy. Edith was always so thankful for that visit, to be able to see the origins of her father and mother and extended Italian family.
Edith was known for being a loving and caring person, particularly to all members of her large Marschall and Martin family. She knew them all, nieces, nephews, their spouses, their children, their children’s children. She was loved by and loved her surviving grandchildren, Todd Livermore, Tina (Brett) Baker, Ronald (Nicole Haas) Marschall, Marissa Marschall, Megan (Nick) Parker and Mallory Marschall as well as her great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Baker, Zack Baker, Liam Marschall, Nolan Marschall and Halle Parker. Later in life Edith was known to point to family at reunions and say “I did that.” Edith lived a long and joyful life filled with family reunions and good friends. She passed peacefully on Oct. 14, 2024. She will be greatly missed but her legacy of unconditional love will continue.
A service to honor and celebrate her 101-year life is scheduled for November 30 at 11 a.m. at Martin Auto Museum in Glendale, Arizona.
