On Thursday night, the Miami High School girls varsity basketball team faced the unbeaten Show Low Lady Cougars, a team one sports site ranked first in the state, and handed the visitors their first loss of the season.

Globe High School’s Emily Barnes (27) led the Lady Tigers varsity soccer team in a 4-3 home victory over the Madison Highland Prep Heat last Wednesday.

Before Saturday’s varsity basketball games between Globe High School and Miami Jr./Sr. High School, the Vandals’ home gymnasium was rededicated to the Vargas family, including longtime coaches the late Dickie Vargas and his son Ken, with an on-court ribbon cutting; members of past Miami championship teams were there for the ceremony.

Globe High School’s varsity soccer team opened their season with a pair of impressive home wins last week, over the Santa Rita (Tucson) Eagles and Morenci Wildcats.

The Globe Tigers and Miami Vandals, coming off home losses to St. Johns and Pima respectively, bounced back with victories on the road Friday night.

Globe High School’s new varsity swim team, the Tiger Sharks – the first varsity swim team in school history – took to the water last month in their initial swim meets.
