William Norval Sherwood, age 93

William Norval Sherwood, age 93 of Globe, Arizona passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at John C. Lincoln Hospital. He was born in St. Johns, Ariz., on September 27, 1924, the son of Sophronia (Brown) and Dan Junius Sherwood.  

In 1943 he came to Globe to work at Pinto Valley when it was being built. While here he met Barbara Lee Graham. Later that year he joined the Marines and a year later came back on a 48 hour leave to marry Barbara. He was then sent overseas for two years in the Pacific. He landed the troops on Iwo Jima.

After World War II he worked at New Modern Dairy and Holsum Bread Company, before working at Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company as a rigger.

He served on the Globe City Council from 1956 to 1959.

He and his wife recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sophronia and Dan Sherwood and his son Larry Graham Sherwood.

William is survived by his wife Barbara of Globe, son David George Sherwood (Lorna) of St. Peters, Mo., daughters Lee Sherwood French of Globe, and daughter in law Linda Sherwood of Mesa, brothers John Delwin Sherwood of Ark., Ray Sherwood of Ark., sister Anita Gwen of N.M., six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the Globe Stake Center.

Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Stake Center.

Interment will be in Globe Cemetery.
