Why yellow? Globe starts 2021 off bright

Locals may have been surprised to look up at Globe’s famous G and see that over the weekend it was painted an illuminating yellow. City of Globe Economic Director Linda Oddonetto told the Arizona Silver Belt that the idea to repaint the famous landmark stemmed from a conversation with her daughter and her friend. “We started talking about how much fun it would be to refresh the G and start the New Year out in a positive way?” said Oddonetto. “We had a fun conversation with all the girls’ ideas of what they’d paint it – polka dots, metallic glow in the dark, fun blocks of color. Their excitement was the seed planted for the bright pop of color on our beloved G Hill, the Pantone Color of the Year – ‘Illuminating Yellow!’”

According to the Pantone website, Illuminating Yellow is a color that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.

On Saturday, Jan. 2, a group of volunteers got together to brighten up the hill.

Oddonetto added that for those on quarantine due to Covid-19, the illuminating yellow G relays a message of happiness and a feeling that everything is going to get brighter.
