The Miami High School Basketball Vandals warmed up the season with back to back non-divisional games at Ray and at home against Coolidge. The varsity boys were able to handle business on the road as they knocked off the Ray Bearcats with a season high 73 points, against the Bearcats 48, on Thursday, Dec. 15. However, they came up a bit short at home against the Coolidge Bears on Friday as they were handed their second loss. The Vandals played disciplined defense but were not able to stop the Coolidge Bears from scoring 58 points, a season high for them. In return the Vandals put up 51 points, which was their lowest score in three games. The Vandals overall record sits at 3-2 but they are yet to play a section game. To this point the season has been a schedule of games, designed by Coach Kenny Vargas, to warm up the boys for a solid basketball season. December and January will host the bulk of Section play for the Miami Vandals. This includes games against the Globe Tigers and San Carlos Braves, who all battle for the top seat in the same Section.
