Volunteer for Jan. 30 ‘Trash Mob’ Cleanup on Highway 60

Posted

We all despise roadside trash - and here’s your chance to join other local volunteers for a Highway 60 cleanup on Saturday morning, Jan. 30.

“Calling all volunteers,” wrote Michelle from Globe Clean and Beautiful. “We’ll meet at the UPS parking lot at 8 a.m. and work until 10 a.m., picking up trash all along Highway 60 from the Circle K back west to the Taco Bell. Please wear gloves and bring your used grocery bags or other shopping bags to fill up with trash. Bring your masks, too; and we’re covering a large enough area that we can all spread out and maintain proper social distance, while pitching in together to help clean up our city.”

Prior events beautified Highway 60 near Hilltop Motors last month and sections of Pinal Creek in November. Organizers plan to continue monthly cleanups across the Cobre Valley throughout 2021. Connect directly with cleanup volunteers and get updates at facebook.com/groups/globecleanandbeautiful and facebook.com/GilaPROUD. Anyone with questions or wanting to help sponsor or donate to the morning cleanup is welcome to call or text Michelle at 928-961-0117, or Regina Ortega-Leonardi at 808-373-0032. Partners in the cleanup include the Cathy Sanchez-Cañez Memorial Foundation, Capstone, US Forest Service, Gila Proud, Cobre Valley Watershed Partnership, Globe High School, City of Globe and Hunter & Hunter Construction.

Globe Rotary wanted to  expand the clean highway efforts by picking up trash along Hwy 60 from China Taste  to Dairy Queen. They will be meeting at Cami Lucero’s State Farm office at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30.
