Miami — The Vandals finished off the regular season with a 12-2 win against San Miguel Vipers on Wednesday, April 26.
Miami finished with a 12-6 overall record and a 10-5 conference record. The Vandals also won the Division II, South Region with an 8-2 region record.
“We played very well,” said coach JC Castaneda. “Anthony Dzera pitched well, striking out 8. In our game against San Manuel on Monday we clinched the Region title. Mondo Garcia pitched and threw well, striking out 8 also. “Going into the playoffs on Friday against Camp Verde I will hand the ball off to senior Mondo Garcia. “Mondo is throwing the ball very well, and I feel good about the game on Friday.”
The No. 13 Miami Vandals will face the No. 4 Camp Verde Cowboys in the first round of the State playoffs on Friday, May 5. The game will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Goodyear Baseball Complex, located at 1933 S. Ballpark Way in Goodyear.
