SUPERIOR — Miami girls basketball picked up its fourth win of the season with a 57-24 victory over Superior on Friday night.
The Lady Vandals (4-12 overall, 2-6 regular season) got off to a strong start, as they led 19-3 after the first quarter and 39-10 at halftime. Aimee Hockaday led Miami with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 2 blocks.
Stella Lopez made two 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 14 points. Jessica Garcia had a strong all-around game with 7 points, 9 steals and 6 assists. Alicia Barreto added 8 points and 9 rebounds.
On Thursday, Miami lost 45-38. The Lady Vandals trailed 36-16 in the third quarter before putting together a furious rally. They went on a 19-2 run to pull ahead 38-35 in the fourth quarter but weren’t able to complete the comeback.
Hockaday contributed 19 points, 14 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 blocks. Franki Galvan scored 6 points while Lopez and Garcia each scored 4 points. Garcia added 4 steals and 3 assists.
Miami hosts Ray this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and travels to San Manuel on Friday.
