Update on Baby Äskar Kannegaard fundraising efforts

Posted

Dear Editor:

Thank you, Globe-Miami community and surrounding areas, for your gracious and generous giving these past months since we first shared this financial need. Recall that Baby Äskar Kannegaard was born into this world in April of last year with a badly formed heart. Thanks be to God, our dear boy was gifted with a new transplanted heart about eight weeks ago, even as he faces ongoing recovery challenges.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) exists to help families with the accompanying lifelong medical costs. They ask that families initially raise their own support, starting with a first goal of $25,000. The deadline for that amount is November 1, and if met, COTA will donate an additional $2,500 towards the larger goal of $50,000. Because so many of you responded, we are currently at $21,500 and change!

We are nearly there, and would like to close the gap of $3,500, so this child can benefit from the bonus monies if the deadline is reached. If you are able to contribute in ways small and large in these difficult economic times, please look for the cash donation jars around town, or mail a check directly to COTA at 2501 W. Cota Dr., Bloomington, IN 47403 with Äskar Kannegaard’s name in the memo line. If you prefer, you can donate directly online to cotaforaskarsfight.com.

God bless you all and thank you in advance for your help and prayer support for this sweet little boy who is one of our own.

Grateful to all of you,

Pastor Valerie J. De La Torre
