SAN TAN — The Globe Tiger basketball traveled to Poston Butte High School on Saturday, Feb. 17 to play Florence in the “Sweet 16” round of the 3A state basketball tournament.
The Tigers started slow and trailed 23-12 after one quarter. The middle quarters were a different story as the Tigers outscored the Gophers 43-33 to trail 56-55 after 3 quarters. The Tigers were outscored 18-12 in the final 8 minutes to fall 74-67.
“We played hard and were competitive throughout the game”, Coach James Simmons stated. “We got down 44-29 but battled back to tie it late and just didn’t make baskets the last 3 minutes”, Simmons added.
“We have a strong core of players coming back next year and we are looking forward to the challenge improving and moving forward”, Simmons concluded.
