The Tigers Wrestling team traveled to Payson, Arizona on January 19 and 20 to participate in the 23rd Annual Tim Van Horn Memorial Invitational Wrestling Tournament.

Tigers compete in Payson

PAYSON — The Tigers Wrestling team traveled to Payson, Arizona on January 19 and 20 to participate in the 23rd Annual Tim Van Horn Memorial Invitational Wrestling Tournament.  

Seth Durbin competed in the 120 pound weight class and placed 3rd.  He ended the tournament with a record of three wins and two losses. 

Cutter Burgett competed in the 126 pound weight class and placed 2nd.  He ended the tournament with a record of three wins and one loss. 

Cody Burgett competed in the 132 pound weight class and placed 4th.  He ended the tournament with a record of one win and three losses. 

Luke Burgett competed in the 145 pound weight class and placed 5th. He ended the tournament with a record of three wins and four losses. 

Jonathan Ortega competed in the 160 pound weight class and placed 5th.  He ended the tournament with a record of one win and four losses.

Thomas Quintero competed in the 170 pound class and placed 6th.  He ended the tournament with a record of two wins and five losses. 

Riley Cline once again dominated the 182 pound weight class, ending the tournament undefeated with five wins and no losses and earning a 1st place.

Congratulations to Riley Cline!  He was the recipient of the 2018 tournament outstanding wrestler award.  He was nominated based on his outstanding performance by the opposing coaches who attended the tournament.

Coach Duarte and assistant Coach Aaron Salcido would like to thank the athletes for their hard work, great performance and dedication to the team and the Globe school administration.

The Globe wrestling program will like to thank Mr. Scott Williams from Empire Machinery for the gracious donation of hotel accommodations for the Payson tournament this past weekend.  

The Tigers will host their home meet and will recognize the senior wrestlers on January 24.  The Tigers will be preparing for the upcoming sectional tournament in Willcox, Arizona on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class will be entered in the State tournament held in Prescott Valley on Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10.
