EDITOR: The Globe Downtown Association would like to express thanks to the community for the successful Halloween block party event. Exceeding crowd expectations, it was a joy to see trick-or-treaters spanning Broad Street from Sycamore to Yuma again this year. Candy was flowing throughout town starting at 5:30 p.m., with a weekday finish to the party at about 9 p.m.

We would like to express thanks to our four stations of music makers Globe High School band; DJ Derryl Meeks; DJ Big John and his “Golden Sounds” from KQSS Gila101.9; and the fun “Scare-e-oke” contest at Jammerz. The ever-fun photo booth and social media costume contest hosted by Kenneth Chan Photography and his team was again a crowd hit.

The costumes this year were amazing. The voting is underway; just hop on Facebook and start voting.

Our merchant window decoration was a fun success. The People’s Choice ballot box was stuffed with votes for Western Reprographics for all three categories. Congratulations. As for the Judges’ Choice there was some amazing competition this year, leaving the judges begging for more categories and room for special mentions. We agreed.

Here are this year’s bragging rights winners: Posted categories “Best Storefront; Over-the-Top” went to Tanner and his team at Western Reprographics; “Best Storefront; Out-of-the-Box” went to the fabulous team Kino’s Floors; and the “Best Storefront; General” went to the 1881 Keegan Building, owned by Jason and Kim Marr. Congratulations.

By the judges’ team request, here are additional mentions: For best building and costume coordination, Old Dominion Cutting Company. For best business-related window décor, the Drift Inn Saloon. For the classiest Halloween, Simply Sarah’s and they added in a non-window, but best Halloween night’s candy station to the Military Antiques team at their new location (Gibson’s/Ortega’s building).

By looking at the notes, everyone was a winner in so many different ways. Kudos to each and every participant this year; it was all “Over-the-Top.”

Special thanks and gratitude go out to the countless pounds of candy that is donated by you, the community. With the help of our Globe City Council ATV runner angels, including Councilwoman Charlene Giles and her husband Steve; Councilman Lerry Alderman and GDA President JoNell Brantley, we get to joyfully redistribute the donations throughout the event.

Additional thanks to our amazing army of event and year-round volunteers, as well as the following John Angulo and his City of Globe Public Works Department team; Chief Walters and his Globe Police Department team; Chief Rennon and his Globe Fire Department team; and the Globe Events Committee.

This committee includes Linda Oddonetto and Mayor Gameros, for without you all, this event could never happen. Continued thanks go out to the Globe-Miami United Fund for the gracious DJ sponsorship; Councilman Stapleton and the countless businesses; community groups; churches; organizations; clubs; families who annually participate in this event with us. We know how much candy you purchase to donate and are so thankful for you.

Please take a moment out of your week to shower our community participants with praise.
