Runners and walkers of all skill levels are invited to sign up for the challenging Sunrise Challenge evening at Round Mountain Park in Globe on Saturday, June 2. This will be the 18th annual race sponsored by Globe Rotary in partnership with the Gila County Division of Health and Emergency Services.
The 5K race is a challenging one with plenty of rocky trails and boulder hopping, but it is doable for those who are ready for a challenge. For best outcome, we recommend a visit to scope out the trail before race day. Entry forms are available at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce, 1360 N. Broad Street.
There is a 5K race of 3.1 miles or if you’re not sure that’s your cup of tea, sign up for the 2-mile fun walk. Entry fee is $25 if postmarked by May 25 or $30 the day of the event. Families of three or more can pay a fee of $55, but children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. The student rate is $20 per entrant.
Race day check is between 4:45 -5:45 am on race day at the Round Mountain visitor center (turn on South Street and go past the Best Western motel up the hill to the park). Awards will be given to the top three 5K finishers in each division: ages 12-20, 21-35, 36-50, 51-65 and over 65. There are male and female divisions.
Make entry checks payable to Globe Rotary Club-Round Mountain. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and bragging rights, winner or not. For information, call the chamber at 928-425-4495.
The entry form can be found here.
