Roosevelt — Ground and air crews battled a fire Sunday near Roosevelt Lake. The fire started around 2:53 p.m. near mile marker 240 on SR 188.
Several campers in the Windy Hill Campground were evacuated for a short time as a precaution. The fire reportedly started due to a spark caused by a boat dragging a chain.
A second fire started at 7:15 p.m. off of Cline Boulevard in Tonto Basin. That fire also required several short evacuations.
The Gila County Sheriff’s Office and Reserve Posse assisted with traffic control and the evacuations.
