The Gila County Peace Officers Memorial Board has teamed up with the Gila County Historical Museum this Christmas to remember fallen heroes.
The Memorial Board, which was formed in 2018 by retired peace officer and Globe resident Robert Freeze, is raising money to establish a memorial for all officers of the law in Gila County who have died in the line of duty.
To help honor them and bring public awareness to the effort, the historical museum, located next to the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce, has devoted a display with 18 Christmas ornaments, each with a name of one fallen officer written on it.
They range from San Carlos Police Chief Albert Sterling in 1882 to Hayden Police Officer Haddad in 2016. Globe-Miami’s own Arizona State Trooper Floyd Fink is also named among the ornaments.
The Gila County Historical Museum is located at 1330 N. Broad St., along Highway 60 in Globe. Doors are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
All are welcome to stop in and see the display, along with the museum’s collection of historic Globe-Miami artifacts.
