Inmate Tommy Gene Reinart, who was being housed at the Gila County Jail on multiple drugs charges, was found unresponsive in his cell early Aug. 3. The cause of death appears to be from natural causes. Mr. Reinart’s remains have been transported to the Pinal County Medical Examiners office to determine cause of death, this is an ongoing investigation.
On Aug. 1, the Gila County Drug, Gang, and Violent Crimes Task Force and Globe Police Department conducted a consensual encounter at the Shell Gas Station. During the encounter indicators of criminal activity were observed and narcotics drugs were seized. A search warrant was executed for the residence and approximately 640 grams of methamphetamines, approximately 129.5 grams of heroin, and 156 narcotic pills were seized along with $14,796 in U.S. Currency.
The methamphetamine seized has a street value of $64,000, heroin seized has a street value of $16,187.50 and the narcotic pills has a street value of $3,900.
Tommy Reinert, 72 of Globe, was arrested for Transportation of a Narcotic Drug for Sale, Possession of a Narcotic Drug for Sale, Possession of a Dangerous Drug for Sale, Possession of a Dangerous Drug, Possession of a Narcotic Drug, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misconduct Involving a Weapon in a Drug Offense, Money Laundering, and Use of a Electronic Communication Device in a Drug Related Offense.
Sheriff Adam Shepherd released a press release stating that the Sheriff’s Office is committed to continuing an aggressive stance on the drug problems that impacts our communities and is committed to the strong working relationships with our municipal partnerships in combating the drug problems. He also sent out a thank you to the Globe Police Department for their collaborated efforts in this investigation. Sheriff Shepherd also thanked the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission for their continued funding of the Gila County Drug, Gang, and Violent Crimes Task Force which makes operations such as this possible.
In response to Mr. Reinert found unresponsive, Sheriff Shepherd thanked the Globe Fire department for their coordinated response and sends his condolences to the family and friends during this difficult time.
