Miami Junior/Senior High School held a cross country meet in a rare all-day rain event at the Cobre Valley Country Club on Wednesday, Sept. 20. Runners were wet to the skin but not too cold, and for once not too warm in the light and steady rain.

As well as Globe and Miami, Safford and San Manuel participated along with Destiny School in Globe.

Destiny ran away with the junior events for girls and boys. Erin Tewawina, Tamia Pietila, and Savana Pietila Destiny students from San Carlos took first, fourth, fifth and seventh places respectively. Kendra Corso and Kaydence Haverland took third place and seventh place.

Boys from Destiny did well also. Lorenz Combs came in first, Mikah Kitcheyan, who resides in San Carlos, came in fourth and Calvin Kindelay came in sixth.

The high school race had fewer runners with only four schools competing: Globe, Miami, Safford and San Manuel.

Globe High School’s Raven Stevens came in first. Ryan Tidy came in second out of Miami and David Pena came in fifth. Miamians Trayton Satter and Manuel Benedetto came in seventh and eighth.

Medals were not given out, but the runners could at least compare the extent of mud on each other’s legs and look back on a beautiful run on the golf course.

Maycala Stapleton won the high school girls category.

Raven Stevens won the Miami cross-country meet for Globe High School.

Vandal Ryan Tidy placed second in the high school boys category.

Globe’s Trayton Satter came in seventh.
