In preparation for clean-up of property located near Latham Boulevard and U.S. Highway 60 in Miami, APS has submitted a work plan to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Voluntary Remediation Program.

The plan outlines specific activities to remove materials produced by a historic manufactured gas plant that operated in the area until 1942.

The remedial work plan is available for review online at azdeqgov/notices, and at the ADEQ Records Center, 1110 W, Washington St., Phoenix.

Call for hours of operation and to schedule an appointment at 602-771-4380, or 800-234-5677, ext. 602774380.

Parties wishing to submit written comments regarding the redial work plan may do so to:

ADEQ: John Patricki, Voluntary Remediation Program, 1110 W. Washington St. Phoenix, AZ 85007, Patricki.John@azdeq.gov.

APS: Judy Heywood, Environmental Department, P.O. Box 53999, MS 9303, Phoenix, AZ 85004, Judith.heywood@aps.com.

APS will host a community open house event to share information about the project and answer questions from residents at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Bullion Plaza — Inspiration Room, 150 N. Plaza Circle, Miami.

Comments must reference the APS Miami VRP site name and be postmarked or received by ADEQ or APS by May 11.

Once the plan is approved, APS will begin excavating impacted soil and replacing it with clean fill dirt. This will be the final phase of remediation work at this site, and it’s expected to be completed this year.
