Pickle Barrel Named Business of the Year

Business of the Year honors for the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce went to The Pickle Barrel in Globe. Jim and Kelly Moss started the business 14 years ago and have grown it from a small gift shop to a “stuffed to the rafters” stop enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

Chamber president Bryan Seppala announced the winner during the chamber’s annual membership meeting on June 22.  “Our winner this year has made their name synonymous with the idea of cool. Their business is a fascinating step into earlier days when stores carried a huge variety of merchandise. In fact, despite the fact their building is a huge one, that merchandise has spilled out into the yard and is a welcome sight  to visitors looking for that special something,” he said.

“Jim and Kelly Moss, and more recently Sandra and Kevin Moss, have shown that the right marketing and customer service can help a business thrive regardless of what the economy does.

“They have taken advantage of the social media avenue and have long been active on Facebook with an attractive page that highlights not only their merchandise, but encourages visits to Globe-Miami, whether it’s for an event or just to enjoy a beautiful drive. During the recent Pinal Fire, their posts were very positive, reassuring those outside the area to come on up and see us … everything is fine!”

Seppala said, ”Their establishment gets top marks from visitors and many spread the word about this unusual stop. Drawing visitors to their store helps the entire business community.” The Moss family has been very helpful in allowing use of some of their properties for Home Tour events and their generosity extends to the many requests they receive for community events had promotions.

The Pickle Barrel has become an icon for the eclectic, the unusual and the fun, and it’s all due to the vision of Jim and Kelly Moss, Seppala noted as he invited the audience to join in recognizing the Business of the Year.
