Pauline Bower Gardea age 91, of Globe, Arizona passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017                 surrounded by friends and family.  She was born in Lockport, New York on June 29, 1926, the daughter of Antoinette (Lewandowski) and Leo Fredrick Bower.  Pauline graduated from Eastman College and was one of the first of seven women to be a dental hygienist. Her license number was 006. As she came by train to Arizona, from New York, she would later learn that the gentleman she was seated next and visited with was Mr. JC Penney himself.

When she arrived in Arizona she went to work in Safford, as a dental hygienist, and also met the love of her life, Nick Gardea.

Nick and Pauline were married on August 18, 1952. Shortly after being married they moved to Tucson where they lived for a short time before finally settling in globe.

After moving to Globe she worked for Dr. Rabogliatti where she would work for more than 10 years.

Pauline loved her family, her two cats and cooking. She was happiest when she could cook for others and share her great cooking. In addition, she had a passion for gardening and couponing. Even at 91 her grocery list with coupons was a piece of work. Her cooking included spices that were put together from her garden.

She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and loved mass. Even if she was traveling she would find a local Catholic church to attend. If there was an occasion where she was unable to attend church for some rare reason Pauline was sure that the nest Sunday she would be in attendance. She use to travel to the reservations around the state to give the native children Fluoride treatments. This was back when the roads were much more primitive.

She is survived by her husband Nick Estevio Gardea of Globe, sons, Peter Gardea, Fredrick Gardea (Laura), Ed Gardea (Geri), daughters Gayle Colyott (Dan), Linda Cayouette (Rick), Nicolette Gardea, Aimee Rios (Marty), her sister Colleen Mathews of Main, nine grandchildren; Danette Davis, Nathaniel Rios, Monique Mach, Katie, Noah and Nico Gardea, Ricky Cayouette, six great-grandchildren; Kandess Colyott, Chase and Brenley Davis, Caedmon, Amerie and Lenore Rios.
