Sad tales, too often heard, is of an Apache elder paying a family member $40 for a ride to Globe to buy household items and groceries or community members wanting to visit a relative at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center (CVRMC) but do not have a ride or the money to pay someone to take them. The Nnee Bich’o Nii TEAM hears the stories and are stepping up to help. The team members all express the same message, “We listen to the people and this is what they are asking for.”

Nnee Bich’o Nii Apache Transit and Cobre Valley Community Transit (CVCT) are teaming up to provide connecting routes from Miami to Safford and everywhere in between beginning Monday, Feb. 24, 2020. There will be no changes to any of the current CVCT routes. Apache Transit will add two stops without any disruptions to their current routes.

Apache Transit passengers from the Safford, Bylas and San Carlos communities will be able to take the Safford/Globe route in the morning to connect with CVCT at their stop at Dollar General in Globe. From there, they can travel on to Safeway, Fry’s, Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center and Walmart. A later CVCT route will reconnect them with Apache Transit at Dollar General at 3:35 p.m. However, this return route will only travel as far as Apache Gold Casino.

In turn, seniors from the Miami and Globe Senior Centers can take a day trip to the Apache Gold Casino, connecting with Apache Transit at the Globe Train Depot. They can return on the afternoon Safford/Globe route, reconnecting with CVCT at Dollar General at 3:35 p.m.

Apache Transit fees range anywhere from $1 for the local San Carlos route to $3.50 for one-way from San Carlos to Safford.  As always, Elders can ride any Apache Transit route for FREE!  CVCT one-way fees are $1 for adults, $0.50 for seniors, students and passengers with disabilities, and children under 12 are free with an adult.

Monthly passes are also available with CVCT.

Detailed bus schedules and fees will be announced in the coming weeks.

Nnee Bich’o Nii Apache Transit TEAM is looking forward to working together with Cobre Valley Community Transit to provide safe, reliable and affordable transportation for Miami to Safford and everywhere in between.
