Motorcyclist rescued after injuring leg

Gila County — On May 8 at approximately 3:27 p.m., the Gila County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from 50-year-old Balazs Pongracz of Venice, California.

Mr. Pongracz advised he had injured his leg after being involved in a motorcycle accident in a remote area of the Pioneer Basin South of Globe. Mr. Pongracz remained calm and reported that he was doing OK, and that his phone was charged and that he had food and water.

Deputies, along with a Gila County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue coordinator, responded to the area and were able to locate Mr. Pongracz at approximately 5 p.m. Mr. Pongracz was taken to an awaiting ambulance, where he was transported to the Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center and then flown to Banner Desert Hospital for treatment.
