Miami Vandals finish season 17-2

The Miami High School Vandals played their last home baseball game of the season last Tuesday, earning a 10-2 victory over the River Valley Dust Devils in the quarterfinals of the AIA Conference 2A state championship.

The Vandals broke open a tight game – it was tied 2-2 after three innings, with River Valley’s first batter getting a home run – by scoring seven runs in the fourth. Pitchers Ryan Powell and Gabe Holmes, both seniors, combined to hold the Dust Devils scoreless after the third.

With the victory Miami, seeded #3 in the playoffs, moved on to the semifinals and a Friday, May 14 matchup with #2 Benson at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear.

The Vandals won against Benson 3-1 in the seventh inning but were later disqualified for an ineligible pitcher.
