Miami Vandals beat Arete Prep, 26-16

The Miami football team celebrated a 28-16 win at Ragus Field against Arete Prep on Friday night.

The Vandals’ first points came in the first quarter, when wide receiver Jaime Pena scored a 15-yard touchdown. Arete Prep scored their first points in the second quarter, followed by a rebound from Miami with a one-yard touchdown by running back Justin Cook. Quarterback Ryan Powell completed the two-point conversion.

In the fourth quarter, Miami added another touchdown when Powell connected with Cook for a seven-yard touchdown. Two more points were scored for a successful two-point conversion. Powell followed with a two-yard touchdown.

“We have a lot to work on as players and coaches,” said Powell. “We bounced back from last week, and we have a big game coming up, so we have to lock in and do what we do best; play Vandal Football.”

Miami continues its season on Friday night at 7 p.m., when the St. Johns Redskins (1-1) will host the Vandals. St. Johns celebrated a 62-8 win over Holbrook last Friday.
