MIAMI -– Lee Kornegay’s fifth grade teacher Shayleigh Price was awarded a $1,000 grant from the Arizona Community Foundation just in time for the start of school.
The grant is earmarked to buy supplies for the 2019-20 school year. For Price, who submitted the grant last April, expanding her student’s reading library takes top priority.
“I want to provide books that my fifth graders want to read,” said Price. “Books that are new, exciting and fun that will grab their attention.”
This is Price’s second year as a teacher. For first year Principal Racquel O’Connor, it’s exciting when young teachers go the extra mile to apply for grants. “Shayleigh is energetic, motivated, and smart,” said O’Connor. “She uses her literary centers to captivate her young learners and we are happy to have her here.”
Proving that great teachers produce great teachers, O’Connor actually taught Price in eighth grade at Lee Kornegay.
