Miami soccer fields coed team to fill roster spots

Posted

“It’s not whether you win or lose…” begins the cliché quote, but in the case of Miami’s soccer team, it’s getting a chance to play the game.

When neither boys’ or girls’ soccer teams could muster enough players, who were fit or academically able to play, Derryck Courvoisier persuaded his friends and the faculty to form a coed team.

Since they must compete in the boys’ league, a recent score was a bit lopsided. A lot lopsided. The score at halftime was 10-0 for Coolidge, and the final score was 15-2.

But when forwards Joseph Dominguez and Armando Perez scored, their joy and that of the team was unalloyed. Coolidge is second in its league boasting three wins, a tie and one loss, so they would have been a strong opponent for an all boys’ team.
