Meet Aguero and Moul from the Gila County WIC

Posted

Gila County Community Health Specialists Karen Aguero and Jessica Moul both came to Gila County’s WIC office in Globe-Miami about a year and a half ago. They followed long-time WIC staffers and had big shoes to fill, but their shared passion for health care has helped them create a welcoming environment where they provide families with individualized services.

Aguero and Moul are proud that in the Globe-Miami WIC office, clients are often able to see the same person time after time. At the very least, they’ll see either Aguero or Moul for their regular appointments. They’ve had folks drive from Superior or the Valley to have their appointment in Globe to avoid seeing a different person every time. “People say we’re faster too,” says Aguero. Aguero speaks Spanish, which she says is a plus for many clients.

“We stay pretty busy over here,” says Moul, “but we still work to establish a relationship with each family.” In September 2017, Aguero and Moul saw 495 clients out of their Globe-Miami office. They were both on WIC when they had their kids, so they bring valuable personal experience to their positions at Gila County. Aguero and Moul are both studying at Gila Community College to further their careers in health care.

They stress that WIC is so much more than formula and can provide a wide range of healthy food depending on the children’s age and/or where the mother is at in her pregnancy. Aguero and Moul also say that people are often surprised that if a person makes too much money to qualify for food stamps, they may still qualify for WIC. The income qualifications for WIC are higher than those for food stamps.

If you’d like more information about WIC or would like to know if you might be eligible, call 928-402-4306 or visit Karen and Jessica at the WIC office at the Gila County Health Department, 5515 S. Apache Ave. in Central Heights.
