Mary Turgon, 88

Posted

The cold winter day of Dec. 1, 1931 produced a warm, loving heart when Mary “Mom” Turgon was born. She managed a difficult childhood, vowed to never pass that on to her own children, and transformed those experiences into creating her own loving and stable family with her beloved husband, Ray. Her three children grew, learned and loved in that positive, supportive, and loving environment. She was a tender, kind Grandma to her three grandchildren and one great grandchild, and loved to experience the world with them and through them. Mom had strong ethics and was a deep and abiding friend who generously gave, laughed, and soothed whenever she could. She loved dancing on roller skates with Ray, listening to her children sing in the backseat of the car during drives, family summer vacations in the Adirondack mountains, attending her children’s many performances, filling the living room with Christmas presents, Merle Norman cosmetics, caring for her grandchildren and Coca-Cola.

With a profound love for God and an immovable belief, Mom embodied the best of her Free Methodist faith’s teachings. She was strong and gentle, directive and flexible, responsible and playful, focused and empathetic. And she always remembered your birthday. She was there when you needed a hug or to hold your hand in silence. Ever the secretary, Mom filed everything and so left many memories to be reviewed. Mary “Mom” Turgon was a mirror of life’s joyous spirit and left us to be with her God and join her beloveds on May 1, 2020.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother Agnes Vogt and her loving husband Ray Turgon. She is survived by her three children, Bruce Turgon of Redding, Calif., Sabriga Turgon of Ojai, Calif., Sue and Lynn Hocking of Globe, Ariz., her grandsons Jesse and Beda Baechler of Switzerland, and her granddaughter Lindsay Lane (Adam) and great granddaughter Aletta of Martiznez, Calif.

Mary lived a life to be admired, was a precious soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
