Lorene Brunson

Posted

Lorene was the sixth of ten children of William L Saunders and Mary Jane Glaspie–Saunders and was born in Pleasant Valley (Young) Ariz. The family lived about two and one-half miles above the old iron bridge at cherry creek at a place called ‘The Peach Orchard’ and today called ‘Saunders Creek’. The family had five boys and five girls over a period of twenty-one years and pretty much had to take care of themselves. Living was tough in those years!

After the family moved into Globe, Lorene met and married George M. Brunson in 1939 and started traveling all over the state trying to make a living. George worked in the mines and as a heavy equipment operator working on nearly all the roads and highways in the state. Lorene followed along taking care of the camps and cooking over wood fires doing whatever was needed to make it during those years. She learned early that it wasn’t easy out there! They started their family in 1941 with the birth of George A then Wilbur came along in 1943. Next was a girl they named Dorthy in 1946 and last, but not least, Jack was born in Ray in 1949.

Lorene leaves 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and, 3 great – great grandchildren and many friends in Gila County.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Lamont Mortuary Chapel in Globe, Ariz.
