American Leadership Academy won the winner’s plaque for the boys’ race in the Globe Invitational Cross-Country Meet at the Old Dominion Mine Park on Saturday, Oct. 20.

With San Carlos, Globe, and Heritage Academy coming in second, third, and fourth. There were also two runners who came all the way from Tohono Odiham High school.

In the girls’ race, Globe took the only plaque because none of the other schools had enough runners in that race to be in the running.

In the girl’s race, Lucy Beeson of ALA came in a minute and 32 seconds ahead of Globe’s Kayona Gilbert with a time of 24:50. Marissa Barissa of San Carlos came in third at 26:50 and Ally Shank came in fourth with a time of 28:20. Isabella Beason and Tavia Kirkham from ALA came in fifth and sixth with times of 28:20 and 28:52. Taylor Stevens of Globe came in seventh with a time of 29:14.

American Leadership Academy took the first four places in the boys’ race with Abel Barraza for Globe beating Jeremiah Alaik for fifth place. The first 18 runners medaled, including four Globe runners Abel Barraza, fifth place, Josh Hale, sixth place, Corey Chee 12th place, and Julius Chee 18th place.

Six San Carlos runners were in the medals: Jeremiah Alaik, sixth place, Brian Cassa, ninth place, Gerald Phillips III, 10th place, Reppert Cassadore III, 11th place, Jalen Patten 16th place, Jeremiah Kenton, 17th place. The two runners from Tohono Odiham, Jesus Salcido and Jereese Tashquin, medaled at 13th and 14th place.

Coach James Simmons praised Globe Cross Country parents who made the meet into an even more memorable event by cooking up a lunch hot dogs, potato, pasta and marshmallow/fruit salads for everyone.

Before the race big kids joined small kids trying out the Mine Park playground.

Globe’s Kayona Gilbert takes second place.
