TUCSON — The Miami girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday with a 47-37 victory at St. Augustine in Tucson.
Aimee Hockaday had a big day for the Lady Vandals, as she scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Jessica Garcia and Stella Lopez each scored 8 points for Miami; Garcia added 6 rebounds and 3 steals, while Lopez had 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
Madison Palmer contributed 7 points and 11 rebounds, while Jasmin Lopez filled the stat sheet with 5 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.
On Thursday, the Lady Vandals lost 77-15 to San Carlos. Hockaday contributed 8 points and 6 rebounds, while Lopez finished with 4 points, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Miami’s record is now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the 2A South Region.
The Lady Vandals will take part in the Copper Cities Tournament in Globe on Dec. 26 and 27. On Dec. 26, Miami plays Florence at 9 a.m. and Combs at 7 p.m.
All games will be held at Globe High School.
