Globe — The Lady Tigers played at Coolidge on Tuesday, April 4.

Kristen Williams was pulled into the Coolidge game for only one at-bat. She was called upon to bunt with runners on 1st and 2nd and only one out. Kristen was thrown out at first, but moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd. The top of the lineup then came up and hit 3 doubles to take a 5-run lead. The Lady Tigers ended up winning 11-7 off of those runs.

“That rally was started with a selfless contribution from Kristen to do what her team needed at that moment. No complaints from Kristen, and no negative attitude from Kristen. Just an athlete giving what was needed for her team to win,” stated Globe coach Brian Hudson.

The ladies hosted ALA on Friday, April 7 and won 14-4.

“I was proud of the girls for staying the course,” Hudson said. “ALA got a jump on us early, but we have really been working on staying the course and playing through the late innings. We are not going into panic mode when we are down by a few runs, like we did in past seasons, and that allows us to bounce back with some strong innings later in the game.

“I am hoping we can finish this stretch strong and make it to the state tournament. These girls have worked very hard over the past several months and now they just need to stay the course.”

Hannah Purcella was named the player of the game. She was the designated hitter and ignited the offense with several RBIs and multiple base hits. The Tigers also had their 2nd triple play of the season. Hope Bear had a strong showing at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a game-winning, 2-out, 3-run double.

Nancy Phillips was awarded the win, with Deverae Escobedo being awarded the save.

Globe’s conference record is now 4-3 and the Tigers’ overall record is 7-6. The Lady Tigers will host Florence on Tuesday, April 18 at 4 p.m.
