At Hayden High School, the game between the Lady Tigers and the St. Augustine Wolves started the way the boys’ game had started with Globe going house-a-fire. But the Lady Wolves had nothing to put out the fire, losing to Globe 82-28.
Globe scored 21 points in the first quarter to St. Augustine’s eight.
In the second quarter the Tigers scored 27 points to eight by the Wolves. All 11 players scored in the first half. All 11 scored in the second half. This would be an example of Coach Belvado’s affirmation that she could replace any player with a counterpart from the bench that could do as well.
In the third quarter, Lady Wolves, Bryanna Rodriguez and Alexis Inocencio scored 12 points between them. Six Tigers made up their 21 points. In the fourth quarter, the Wolves went without while the Tigers scored only 13 points.
Top shooter for the Tigers was Shawna Talgo with 13 points, but Kayla Howard scored 10. Alexis Fall and Sissalle Kindelay scored nine. Laura Dalton, Kayona Gilbert, and Phinis Fall each scored eight points. Meriel Nosie scored six. Georgie Jones scored five, Hailee Gilbert scored four, and Jessie Swift put in a free throw for one point.
This strong team will play San Miguel at Hayden High School on Friday, Jan. 25, and their rival, San Carlos, at San Carlos High School on Friday, Feb. 1. JV Games start a 2:30 p.m. and the varsity girls and boys play at 5:30 and 7 p.m.
