Lady Braves shut down Tigers in 2A South Regional Tournament

Posted

The San Carlos Lady Braves effectively shut down the Globe Lady Tigers 66-43 on Friday Feb. 14 in the San Carlos gym. After winning 66-58 on Jan. 7 in a brilliant performance, the Tigers have lost 2 straight to San Carlos.

Hailie Gilbert scored only 5 points for Globe in the latest game vs. the 18 points she scored in the win on Jan. 7, but Laura Dalton came up with 12 points to only 4 points in the first game, and Sissallie Kindelay scored 10 points including every one of her free throw attempts not far down from her total of 12 in the Jan. 7 game.

For the Braves, Heaven Cosen ran rampant. One of two Brave players to score more than 1500 points in her high school career, she put in 10 baskets and nailed another 2 free throws for 22 points. On the other hand Cheridan Gooday, another 1500 pointer was held to 10 compared with 20 points in the first game, but Chasity Steele, who was held to no points in the first game scored 11 points in the last game. Aaliyah Haozous, who was held to 5 points in the first game, scored two threes and two two-pointers for 10 points.

Points alone don’t tell the tale.

Brave defenders kept Tiger attackers from getting into the basket to make shots, and they forced turnovers. They were even more ferocious than the storied Globe defense in this game.  Globe plays again on Feb. 18, against Round Valley, which should get them into the State Championship in Prescott over the weekend of Feb. 21-22.
