The San Carlos Lady Braves reached the quarter finals in the State 2A tournament by beating Glendale Prep.
Although their 53-43 loss to the St. Johns Redskins didn’t go as badly as some their regular season games for the Lady Braves’ opponents, it had something of the same flavor.
San Carlos only lost by 10 points, but they suffered the indignity of having shots blocked and suffered turnovers to an extent that they weren’t used to.
They did alright in the first quarter, trading the lead with the help of Heaven Cosen, Aaliyah Haozous and Alyssa Martin. But in the second quarter they never held the lead and, by the end of the third quarter, the deficit had grown to double digits.
They rallied a bit in the fourth quarter with the help of Cheridan Gooday and Heaven Cosen, but, although they came within five points (40-35) on a basket by Gooday with 5:44 left, the final score was 43-33 for St. Johns.
