Kurleen “Kay” Murray

Posted

Kurleen “Kay” Murray, age 75, of Globe, Arizona passed away on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022 at Heritage Healthcare Center in Globe.

Kay was born in Ainsworth, Nebraska on Sept. 9, 1947 to Dewey Schmichael and Zetta (Halstead) Schmichael.

When her high school sweetheart Michael got out of the Navy in 1966, they soon eloped and started a family together.

Kay did volunteer work with the Miami Unified School District, working with children and teaching them to read. Besides her volunteer work she was a stay-at-home mom to three children.

Kay had many hobbies and activities that she enjoyed. She and Mike always had a book in hand, and they watched old Westerns together. Kay was always crocheting and made many items for her children and grandchildren. They always had a lot of dogs which she complained about, but deep down I know she loved each one so much; she always had cute silly names for them. She was always writing letters to many family members out of state. Kay also loved to splurge on makeup and jewelry from Avon! If you knew Kay, you knew she was a huge fan of her sports! Her baseball team was the Arizona Diamondbacks of course, but she also liked the Cubs, Dodgers, and Boston Red Sox.

Words seem too small to express the sadness we feel about Kay’s death.

How do we say goodbye to someone so very dear? We remember all the precious moments shared and hold them close to our hearts. We thank our God for allowing their presence in our lives. We will miss them dearly but will cherish our memories forever. God be with you, Kay and Michael Murray; may you rest in peace together forever.

Kay is preceded in death by her husband Michael Roy Murray and her parents Dewey and Zetta Schmichael.

She is survived by her children Larry Murray, Patrick “Pat” Murray and Shannon Murray of Globe, Arizona; her grandchildren Joshua, Jake and Shelby Wampole, and Kayla Williams (Chris); and three great-grandchildren.

She was a witty, strong-willed woman who will be dearly missed.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

Assisting the family; Lamont Mortuary of Globe.
