Posted

Julia Markham passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, 2019 in Chandler, Ariz. at 93.

Julia was born in 1926, the eldest of three daughters, to Jasper and Mae Rogers in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

She met her husband, John Markham, and was married in 1943 at the end of the war. They had their son, Bob, and the young family traveled west to settle in the Claypool, Ariz. area where they had two daughters, Linda and Judy. They enjoyed a long marriage of 60 plus years until John passed away from cancer.

Julia was known as “Meemaw” and loved southern foods. Some of her favorites were biscuits and gravy, buttermilk and cornbread, collard greens, cornbread dressing with turkey, and red velvet cake to name a few. She never lost her endearing southern accent, and loved the color red.

She made quilts for each child, grandchild and great grandchild over the years.Meemaw loved her family and would do absolutely anything for any of them.

Some of her greatest joys were traveling to Germany, Alaska and Oregon several times to be with family, playing Aggravation board game with friends, playing Solitaire at the dining room table and being an active member of the First Baptist Church in Miami.

She was a devout christian and read her Bible faithfully each night.

Julia is survived by her children Bob Markham of Tempe, Ariz., Linda Markham-Livingston of Lincoln City, Oregon and Judy Markham-Sours of Garibaldi, Oregon. Her surviving grandchildren are Mark Markham (with his wife AnneMarie) of Chandler, Ariz., Tom Markham of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Kristen Rodriguez (with her husband Louis) of Queen Creek, Ariz., Jacque Daniels of Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Garrett Livingston of Lincoln City, OR.
