Jerry L. Van Meter, 66, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018, at Heritage Healthcare Center in Globe, AZ. He was born August 9, 1951 in Henryetta, OK to Fred and Alvita Van Meter.

Jerry moved to Miami, AZ as a young teenager. He went to Miami High School and then enlisted in the US Army. He served two tours in Vietnam.

Jerry worked at the Christmas Mine, Miami Copper and BHP. As a millwright, he traveled to California, Nevada, Utah and Florida. He also worked for a year in Fairbanks, Alaska at Fort Knox Gold Mine.

Jerry loved to fish, hunt and visit with family and friends. During his illness, whenever he was able, he loved to ride his scooter to the top of the hill and spend time with the Lord.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kathy Van Meter of Globe, AZ; son, Jerry L. Van Meter Jr. (Shannon) of San Tan Valley, AZ; daughter, April Ashby of Globe, AZ; two grandchildren, Reese Van Meter and Kailey Van Meter; 3 step-children, Tammy Chesley (Tanner) of Mesa, AZ; Terra Casarez (Benji) of Hollister, CA; Jeremy Mills (Auburn) of Washington State; 10 step-grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild; and sister, Darlene Sundell (Mark) of Globe, AZ. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Alvita Van Meter; brother, Dale Van Meter; sister, Barbara Van Meter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018  at Lamont Mortuary Chapel in Globe, AZ. Graveside services will be at the Veteran’s National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 1:00 pm. Assisting the family; Lamont Mortuary of Globe
