Peridot - After years of planning, and in the midst of a pandemic, the San Carlos Apache Healthcare Corporation (SCAHC) forges on enhancing the quality and comprehensive care provided to their patients by opening a new Surgical Center - a vision of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, and SCAHC Board of Directors - on Jan. 11, 2021.

SCAHC’s Surgical Center provides a state-of-the-art facility specializing in surgical and endoscopic procedures. The Surgical Center features one operating room and one procedure room with four pre- and post-operative rooms. The Surgical Center will be performing a variety of procedures such as: abdominal surgery (including gallbladder and appendix), alimentary tract/ intestinal surgery, colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) to examine the lining of the esophagus, gastrostomy feeding tube insertion and removal, venous access port placement and endocrine system (thyroid and parathyroid).

Victoria Began, CEO, states, “This is a tremendous accomplishment for the San Carlos Apache Tribe and the San Carlos Apache Healthcare Corporation. We are excited and honored to bring these new services to the community. Our Surgical Services team has a combined 25 plus years of experience in all areas of surgical care including pre-operative, surgical, and post-operative services.”

Dr. Margaret Butler, General Surgeon for SCAHC, said “I love the art of surgery. What drew me to surgery was the ability to identify and fix the problem. I believe strongly that when caring for people, they are best served if you approach their care as you would want for your family or yourself. It is not only important to provide patients with my technical expertise but with the care and compassion they deserve in their time of need as well. I’m committed to attentive listening and communicating with clarity in the journey through your healthcare process.”
