Imagine Your Story this summer

There’s still time to get lost in a summer reading adventure. The Globe Public Library’s summer reading program is 100 percent virtual this year and according to Globe Librarian Adrea Ricke all ages are encouraged to read this summer and record their minutes by registering on Read Squared website: https://globepubliclibrary.azsummerreading.org/.

There is also a Read Squared App which is available for Apple and Android.

Read Squared, has a specific place to record minutes. That screen has multiple fields asking for a book title, ISBN and more, but the Globe Library wants young readers to know that the only required portion after registration is the number of minutes read.

The prize system is as follows: Ages 0-5 earn one prize for every two hours, 40 minutes read (maximum six prizes), ages 6-10 earn one prize for every two hours, 40 minutes read (maximum six prizes), ages 11-17 earn one raffle ticket for one hour read to enter the gift card raffle of their choice (Zona Ice $25 gift cards, Vida E $25 gift cards, or a $25 gift card), ages 18 and up earn one raffle ticket for one hour read and will be entered to win a raffle for $25 Visa gift cards. All prizes will be tallied and distributed during the week of July 20.

“In addition to encouraging people to read, we want to stay connected to our community,” said Ricke. “As a result of that, we have developed virtual programming for our summer reading program. The theme this year celebrated in libraries nationwide is “Imagine Your Story” so it covers fantasy, mythology, and fairy tales.” The easiest way for the library to reach people is through the Globe Public Library Facebook page. The library posts goes LIVE multiple times throughout the week and gives out corresponding activity kits to go with the LIVE programming.

The regular schedule for this summer includes: Mondays – Ages 0-5 at 10:30 a.m. with pick-up for activity kits being 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (drive-thru service at the front of the library), Tuesdays – Ages 6-10 at 2 p.m. with pick for activity kits being 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (drive-thru service at the front of the library, Wednesdays – Ages 11-17 at 2 p.m. with pick up for activity kits being 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (drive-thru service at the front of the library), and Fridays – 18 and over (airing time and pick-up times vary, see Globe Library Facebook for weekly schedule).

“The nice thing is that even if a person misses the live airing, we post that airing to our timeline so people may go back and watch the programs at any time,” said Ricke.

The Miami Memorial Library is also giving people an opportunity to register for their program at: https://miami.azsummerreading.org/. They also have prizes available for participants.

The Miami Memorial Library is currently offering a virtual art class “Art with Ms. Pontel” on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. via Zoom.

Visit the Miami memorial Facebook page for the Zoom link. They have summer reading activity packets available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those that are registered.
