Humphrey Donates to Cobre Valley Youth Club

Gila County Supervisor Tim Humphrey helped remove a roadblock last week, bringing Cobre Valley Youth Club’s building renovation closer to completion.

Youth Club board members and volunteers have been at work for six months remodeling the Knights of Columbus hall, transforming it to allow the popular Youth Club to relocate to larger quarters, expanding to allow more kids to participate in after-school activities, and with a kitchen.

Supervisor Humphrey knows the difficulty of remodeling, with three decades in the construction business after starting his own company in Globe, he’s well versed in building codes and construction. Humphrey knows when a remodel is better than demolition. His donation of $5,000 last winter helped initiate work on the building; last week he donated another $5,000 to replace the leaky roof over the building’s kitchen - adding pitch for better drainage, and replacing and painting interior walls.
“Here are three reasons I’m proud to continue to support this project: the Youth Club is a proven success, providing creative programs and activities for kids in our community. Second reason is that this is a volunteer effort, Youth Club board officers have done a great job recruiting volunteers for interior carpentry work, sheetrock, painting and those board members work right beside them with hammers and paintbrushes. And my third reason: by remodeling a building that has some history here in Globe, they’re preserving some of what makes our community unique.

I hope this donation reminds Globe-Miami businesses and residents that they, too, can donate - whether its money or their carpentry skills or time, to help complete this project.”
