Globe — The Historic Globe Main Street Program and its partners are pleased to announce the revival of the Historic Cemetery Tour on Saturday, April 8 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Globe Cemetery is a unique and historic location, dating back to its founding in 1876. Many persons from Arizona’s and Globe’s early history have come to be buried here. This tour will acquaint guests with some of the cemetery’s earliest “residents,” as they share brief accounts of their lives and contributions to early Globe. Please note: This is NOT a ‘ghost’ nor ‘ghoulish’ tour, but a respectful and historic walking tour of an early “Who’s Who” of Globe. Expect personal accounts of lives by actors portraying Al Sieber, Judge Aaron Hackney, Phineas Clanton, Irene Vickery and others. (The scale of undertaking for the tour limits us to the lowest loop of the earliest section of the cemetery. Look for further accounts including the Buffalo Soldiers and the Chinese experience to be included in a future tour.) The approximately 1-1/2 hour tours begin at the 1916 train depot on Broad Street and wrap up at the historic 1910 Sheriff’s Office “Jail Yard Cantina” party (with rumored old West shoot-outs and more) on Oak Street one block from the starting point. Guests will depart and arrive by shuttle. (Please note that the tour is only available by shuttle, as the cemetery affords no parking, and will be closed to vehicles during the tour itself). There will also be a Model T on hand to shuttle folks up, for an additional donation to the 1910 Jail restoration fund. Tours are $15 per person, while children under the age of 10 get in free with adult supervision. Or, the pre-sale partnership tickets with the Historic Home and Building Tour are $25 per person and include both tours. These special tickets must be purchased by April 7 and come with a bonus gift. Guests are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable to walk the lower loop on a April evening. The last tour will depart at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are recommended and available at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts, Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce and The White Porch Gifts.
