Globe Unified School District closed its schools on Thursday, April 26 due to teacher and staff participation in the statewide demonstration for increased school funding, but they did not quit caring about the well-being of their students.
GUSD teachers, staff, students and administrators joined together to make more than 900 lunches for students that normally eat school lunch.
Volunteers donated time to make the lunches. Frank DalMolin, from DalMolin Excavating, drove a trailer to Phoenix to pick up food.
All lunches are being paid for through donations, which are being accepted at the district office.
GUSD Superintendent Jerry Jennex reflected on the event and stated “GUSD has worked really hard to create a culture that lives up to its vision ‘capturing hearts, empowering minds.’ It was only natural, in this environment, to work together with our staff and community to provide lunches for our students when there were unexpected closure of school.”
