After a series of delays to the Community Center Pool renovation, the City of Globe is now projecting a May 26, 2023 re-opening for the pool.
That date was included in a City staff report to the City Council, which during its May 9 meeting approved an agreement that is expected to streamline the process as the pool nears completion.
Council approved an assignment and turnover agreement between the City and its partner in the project, Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center. Each partner had a parallel contract with Structural Preservation Systems, the lead contractor on the renovation. Under the approved agreement CVRMC will assign its Structural contract to the City, giving it full authority to oversee final construction – rebuilding the bath house, expanding the site and adding a 30-foot double water slide - and approve payments for the outstanding $150,000 of the contract. CVRMC, which contributed $1.9 million for those amenities, will continue to make the payments.
With the agreement, CVRMC will transfer title to all improvements Structural has made or will make. The agreement also stipulated that, by Aug. 1. 2023, the City would acquire and install a shade structure with seating for the pool’s splash pad area. The hospital will pay the costs, with the City reimbursing them by the end of this year.
